The history of the Chengalpattu Medical College dates back to days before 1965 when this was a District Head Quarters hospital with its building in the town. In 1965, the Government of Tamil Nadu upgraded this District Headquarters hospital as a teaching institution with 250 beds for clinical training. Vedachalam Mudaliar, the then Chairman of Chengalpattu Municipality, donated a vast area, which is in pocession of this institution. Today the college is under the affiliation of The TN Dr.MGR Medical University, Chennai, State of TamilNadu, India, and is wholly administered by the Government of State of TamilNadu. The Institute is a Medical Teaching Institute Recognised by the Medical Council of India,New Delhi, India. The college Entrains the motto of - Discipline, Service and Sacrifice. The Medical school trains nearly 500 Under Graduate and 100 Post Graduate from around the country in various Medical Departments. The College, Hospital Buildings and its hostels are located in a sprawling campus of 240 acres at Highgrounds in Chengalpattu, in the District of Kancheepuram, TamilNadu. The College campus is located within two kms of the Chengalpattu Railway Station junction, Intercity Bus Station and 30 KM from International Airport. 

To begin with, this institution had an annual admission of 50 students, which was maintained till 2012. 100 students were admitted from the academic year 2012-13 onwards. This 50-years old institution was the 6th of its kind to be started inTamil Nadu. Girls students were first admitted in the year 1970 and the first batch of M.B.B.S.graduated from the college  in 1972.

The hospital, at its dawn, was functioning with the basic departments which included medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics, orthopedics , ophthalmology , otolaryngology, psychiatry and chest clinic. As days went by, other departments started functioning one by one, thus, making the hospital a tertiary care centre. The College and Hospital have well attended OP Departments and Indoors with an average of nearly 3000-3500 OPD on Per day. Average Bed strength and Bed Occupancy rate or 600 to 700 per month and 90-110% per month respectively.

Superspeciality departments include neurology , cardiology , nephrology , pediatricsurgery , plasticsurgery , urology, neurosurgery Cadres to the need of patients requiring haemodialysis, fully functioning automatic analyser, Radiology Department and fully functioning super speciality departments.12 Broad Speciality and Super Speciality Departments -General Medicine, General Surgery, O&G, Paediatrics, Anaesthesia, DVL, Pathology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Plastic Surgery, Psychiatry trains 29 Post Graduates every year through All India & State Quota. The College also has Para Medical Courses (Bsc Nursing, Diploma Nursing, BSc Radiology, DMLT, Certificate Courses, Nursing Assistant and various technical courses). The Institute has a fully functioning multi disciplinary research unit through which many research projects of the faculty, students, ICMR, WHO are carried out. The Central Library with all the required books and journals are well decked and also has E-Journal access facility with Individual User ID, Password.

Chengalpattu Medical College, has 750 seater auditorium, fully equipped examination hall with surveillance system and modernised lecture halls.

The College Requires New Courses in various higher and broad speciality because this region of the country needs more medical human resources with adequate clinical and managerial capacity to meet the projections and health demand of the population growth. The Present proposal is a part of our holistic plan with emphasis on growth and Different component of Medical Education Focussing on.

• Better and enhanced hospital services in the rural areas of the district
• Better and enhanced employment of trained medical personnel in all areas of Chengalpattu and Surrounding districts of Kancheepuram to improve the emergency and immediate care of the patient.
• More medical personnel to facilitate better and equitable access to the Medical Services and Health care
• To enhance focused and robust health management plan to effectively cope with situation arising from natural and manmade calamities.

Hence it is a essential to try to have more trained medical professionals to cater to the needs and requirements of the society.

AGE LIMIT ( As per the NEET UG – 2019 -2020 Bulletin).

Candidates should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or should complete that age on or before 31st December of that year.

GENERAL ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA:

1. Candidates should be a Citizen of India.
2. Overseas Citizens of India, who are registered under Section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (Central Act 57 of 1955) are eligible to apply for MBBS/BDS Degree Courses subject to the production of proof of such registration. However, OCI candidates will not be eligible for any kind of reservation and will be treated only as Open Category.

Qualifying Criteria:

The National Testing Agency will prepare an All India Merit List of successful candidates of NEET (UG) – 2019 on the basis of the eligibility criteria provided by the Board of Governors in Supersession of Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India as given in Graduate Medical Education Regulations - 1997 issued under Indian Medical Council Act -1956 and BDS Course Regulations, 2007 issued under the Dentists Act, 1948

The eligibility criteria are as follows:

Admission to MBBS / BDS Degree Courses shall be based solely on marks obtained in the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET–UG 2019)

1. In order to be eligible for admission to MBBS / BDS Courses for a particular academic year, it shall be necessary for a candidate to obtain minimum of marks at 50 th percentile in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test to MBBS / BDS Courses held for the said academic year. However, in respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks shall be at 40 th percentile. In respect of candidates with Bench Mark Disabilities specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the minimum marks shall be at 45 th percentile for unreserved category candidates and 40 th percentile for SC/SCA/ST/OBC candidates.
2. Provided when sufficient number of candidates in the respective categories fail to secure minimum marks as prescribed in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test held for any academic year for admission to MBBS / BDS Courses, the Government of India in consultation with Board of Governors in Supersession of the Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India may at its discretion lower the minimum marks. required for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses for candidates belonging to respective categories and marks so lowered by the Government of India shall be applicable for the said academ
3. To be eligible for admission to the MBBS / BDS Courses, a candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio- technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Bio-technology at the Qualifying Examination as mentioned in Graduate Medical Education Regulations-1997 as amended in 2018 and BDS Course Regulations, 2007 and in addition must have come in the merit list of National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for admission to MBBS / BDS Courses. In respect of the candidates belonging to the SC, ST and OBC category, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Bio-technology taken in qualifying examination and competitive examination (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) must be 40% marks instead of 50%. In respect of candidates with Bench Mark Disabilities specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the minimum marks in qualifying examination in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-Technology taken together must be 45% instead of 50% for Unreserved category candidates and 40% for SC /ST / OBC candidates.
4. Candidates who have passed 10+2 from Open School or as private candidates shall not be eligible to appear for ‘National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test’. Furthermore, study of Biology / Biotechnology as an Additional subject at 10+2 level also shall not be permissible. The proviso in italics has been subject matter of challenge before the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi, Hon’ble High Court of Allahabad, Lucknow Bench and Hon’ble High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur. The provisions of the regulations disqualifying recognised Open School Board candidates and the candidates who have studied Biology / Biotechnology as an additional subject has been struck down.

“The Medical Council of India has preferred Special Leave Petitions before the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Therefore, the candidatures of candidates in the NEET (UG)-2019 who have passed the qualifying examinations i.e. 10+2 from National Institute of Open Schooling or State Open Schools or as private candidates from recognised State Boards; or with Biology / Biotechnology as additional subject shall be allowed but subject to outcome of Special Leave Petitions/Appeals filed by the Medical Council of India”.

NON-ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

1. Candidates who have passed the H.S.C or its equivalent Government examinations in the Vocational Stream as their elective or specialization and private candidates, who have passed 10 + 2 from Open School are not eligible to apply for the MBBS / BDS Degree Courses.
2. The selection and admission of candidates of other Universities / Boards will be provisional, subject to the No Objection Certificate given by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Guindy, Chennai. In case, No Objection Certificate is not accorded for the admission of the candidate on any ground, the provisional allotment of the candidate for continuance of the course and the admission will be cancelled.
3. Candidates presently pursuing the MBBS course in Tamil Nadu or in other States of India or other countries in the world are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply for the MBBS Course once again.
4. Candidates presently pursuing the BDS course in Tamil Nadu or in other States of India or other countries in the world are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply for the BDS Course again.

NATIVITY:

1. Candidates should be a Native of Tamil Nadu.
2. Candidates belonging to Native of Tamil Nadu and having studied from Standard VI to Standard XII in schools of Tamil Nadu need not submit their “Nativity Certificate”. However, such candidates should produce the true copies of their parent’s certificates such as Birth Certificate, Ration Card SSLC / 10 th / 12 th / Degree / Diploma / Professional course. In case, parents are not literate, then No Graduation Certificate for parents, from the Revenue Authority of competent jurisdiction, to substantiate their parent’s place of birth in Tamil Nadu and also “Parent’s Community Certificate to claim the communal reservation”. If the candidates do not submit the above mentioned certificates, then the candidates will be considered under Open Category only.
3. Candidates belonging to other States who are residing at Tamil Nadu cannot claim nativity of Tamil Nadu and they will be considered under Open Category.
4. The other State candidates who are not native of Tamil Nadu and have studied from Standard VI to XII in Tamil Nadu will be considered under Open Category.
5. Permanent Residence Certificate in lieu of Nativity Certificate will not beaccepted.
6. Candidates who are Native of Tamil Nadu, but studied from VI Standard to XII Standard outside Tamil Nadu either partly or completely in one or more States should produce the true copies of their parent’s certificates such as Birth Certificate, Ration Card, SSLC / 10 th / 12 th / Degree / Diploma / Professional course. In case, parents are not literate, then No Graduation Certificate for parents, from the Revenue Authority of competent jurisdiction, to substantiate their parent’s place of birth in Tamil Nadu and also “Parent’s Community Certificate to claim the communal reservation”. If the candidates do not submit the above mentioned certificates, then the candidate’s application will be summarily rejected.
7. Nativity Certificate obtained prior to the last date of receipt of filled in application alone will be accepted and sending the Nativity Certificate separately will not be entertained.
8. If false Nativity certificate is submitted and at a later date, if it is found out, then the candidate will be expelled from the course and also criminal proceedings will be initiated against the candidate as well as his/her parents as per provision of the law.

Charm

The year 2019-2020 can ce termed as the most successful year academically as it was this year which marked the most number of undergraduate intercollege academic events in the history.The year kicked off with the first time ever National Conference.

Which saw the participation of UG Students from almost 10 states from well reputed colleges like AIIMS Delhi raipur ,Kolkatta medical college,etc.

It also set a benchmark for the maximum participation from students from other colleges wherein almost more than a 1000 students took part.

The Highest ever prize money for an intercollege medical quiz was awarded which was worth RS 1.5 lakh.

The other academic events of the year were the intercollege rabies Quiz in association with department of Community medicine the intercollege pathology quiz which was also conducted on a national level in association with department of pathology.

The monthly Clinical society meetings were taken to another level when certificates were awarded to the presenters for the first time ever in the history of the meets held before .
