Department of forensic medicine started since the inauguration of Chengalpattu medical college in the year of 1965

Infrastructure
The department of forensic medicine is situated in the second floor of medical college building and mortuary being located in the hospital campus. Department consists of professor room, assistant professor room, tutors room, demonstration room,museum, departmental library, laboratory, office room and lecture hall. Demonstration room: one in number (600 sq feet) with 60 number capacity.

Departmental activities:
Dealing with medicolegal works and academic activities.
- Conducting Post-mortem on an average 1300 pm examinations per year
- Dealing sexual offenses cases
- Age estimation
- Attending court duties.
- Hyoid bone expert opinion
- Scene of crime visits and investigation for suspicious cases frequently
- Attending exhumation and doing spot pm
- Giving expert opinion
Academic activities including theory and practical classes to second year students 100 in number and training of CRRI’s in forensic medicine.
