DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SURGERY

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT.

Chengalpattu medical college was started in 1965.Surgery department was initially functioning with 4 units. It was then upgraded to 5 units from October 1, 2018. Postgradute course was started in 1996 and 1 st batch had one 1 postgradute student.Later postgraduate student strength increased to 3 student by 2007.By 2010 postgradute student strength increased to 4 and by 2017 it increased further to 15 students. The Dynamic department is headed by two Professors with four Associate professors and seven Assistant professors , five senior resident and 45 Junior residents.Five surgical units functioning efficiently and serving patients with 24 hours tender care and treatment.

    • OP Days and Timings – All Days in the week between 7.30 AM TO 12.00 PM. Bed strength of Department: 180 beds

    Average O.P – 400 to 500 OP/Day Average I.P - 50 to 60/Day.
