DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY
The department of biochemistry is functioning from faculty block of government Chengalpattu medical college. The department offers diagnostic and academic services.
ACADEMIC SERVICES:
The department imparts basic training to the undergraduates in applied biochemistry, clinical biochemistry and in molecular biology. The total annual intake of first year MBBS students is 100. The course commences on September every year. The curriculum fixed by TAMILNADU DR.MGR MEDICAL UNIVERSITY is followed. The criteria for appearing for university examination is based on norms set by university. The written and practical examinations are conducted on the basis of university guidelines. In addition to teaching activities the department is also involved in research activities. There is well equipped and well furnished undergraduate practical and research lab. The library with its widest range of books by various biochemists aims at providing a better reference for the students and faculties.
PERIODIC ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:
In addition to routine theory and practical classes, seminars, symposium, group discussions and integrated teaching classes with physiology, anatomy departments and also with other clinical departments are conducted.

SERVICE LABORATORY IN THE HOSPITAL:
There is separate biochemistry laboratory in the hospital which is functioning 24*7. It provides biochemical diagnostic services for patients attending OP & IP and emergency departments attached to medical college & hospital. The 24 hours lab in hospital is well equipped and adequately man powered. The staffs are employed in three shifts. The total number of patients utilizing the lab service is increasing every year. The biochemical waste generated are segregated and disposed as per biomedical waste management protocol. To improve the lab standards we are running internal quality and external quality control programmes.
