OBSTETRICS GYNAECOLOGY
Chengalpattu Medical College has
been an insignia of pride and hope since it’s inception in 1965. What started
as a district head quarters hospital saw nothing but progressive growth by
being upgraded to a teaching institution with 250 beds for clinical training in
the same year. Affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR medical university and
recognised by the Medical Council of India, Chengalpattu Medical College
started admitting 50 student to MBBS which was increased to 100 student in 2012
acknowledging the capability, competence, and capacity of the institute.
Chengalpattu Medical College prides
itself in not just being a massive institute sprawling 240 acres at high
grounds of Chengalpattu, but also in being The Tertiary Care center and
Referral center for multiple PHCs, District hospitals and GH in Chengalpattu
and Kancheepuram district. At present the
department provides comprehensive antenatal and gynaecological services
catering to the population in and around Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram. We provide
tertiary care services to all the Taluk hospitals extending from St. Thomas
Mount in North to Kelambakkam in East to Acharapakkam in South and Kancheepuram
in West.
The hospital since it’s dawn has been
housing all basic medical and surgical fraternities like Internal Medicine,
General Surgery, Obstetrics And Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics,
Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Psychiatry And Chest Clinic. Recognising the
populous OPDs with an influx of 3000-3500/ day and a constant bed occupancy
rate of 90-110% per month, Super Specialty Departments like Neurology,
Cardiology, Urology, Nephrology, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery And
Neurosurgery found it’s way into the hospital. Keeping up with the needs Post
graduate courses for specialty courses were started and Chengalpattu medical
college produces about 29 Post graduates of various specialties per year.
Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology
The department of obstetrics and
gynaecology is no less than the crowning jewel of Chengalpattu Medical College
for it provides round the clock excellent and comprehensive services to care
for women at all walks for life. Starting from adolescent clinic, infertility
services, antenatal care, delivery, high risk pregnancy care, family welfare
services, gynaecological services including minimal access procedures, cancer
screening, gynae ontological services and post menopausal clinic are being
provided with maximum efficacy.
The
new Cemonc building inaugurated in 2015 stands as a new beacon of promise for
more efficient care. The department obtained its LaQshya accreditation on may
2023
ensuring
the care provided is in par with national standards and requirements. A daily
walk in count of 150-200 to OBGYN OPD, daily deliveries amounting to 30-40, and
the startling achievement of near zero maternal mortality stands testament to
the efficacy of the department. Academic activities do not get the shorter end
of the stick despite the overwhelming work load, with regular symposiums,
journal clubs and ongoing research activities.
Our
department provides excellent treatment and care for patients with normal and
high-risk pregnancies, and we expertly address a wide range of gynecologic and
women-s health concerns, including: Breast Care, Endometriosis, Family
Planning, Fertility Reproductive Health, Malignancies, Hysterectomy
Alternatives, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Pediatric Adolescent
Gynecology, Pelvic Floor Disorders, Pregnancy Childbirth, Routine Gynecologic
Care and Vulvar Diseases.
