ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Emergency Medicine department is a specialized unit consisting of various specialitis toprovide immediate care to patients with acute illness or injuries.It is operated 24/7 ensuring medicalattention is available at all times. The Department is equipped with advanced diagnostic & treatmenttools to handle a wide range of medical & surgical emergenies.
The Tamilnadu Accident & Emergency Care Initiative is being implemented in the Emergency
Department focusing on the six pillars Trauma/Burns/ Poisoning/Stroke/Myocardial Infarction/PREM.
Coordinated among various specialities to provide comprehensive care tailored to each patients needs.
STRUCTURE
- Resuscitation bay for medical & surgical Emergency cases including PREM, this area is equipped with advanced resuscitation & monitoring.
- Consists of Red / Yellow & Green zones with 40 beds.
- On site imaging facilities (X – RAY ,CT, MRI & eFAST) laboratory services for rapid evaluation.
- Emergency Operation Theatre services available 24/7.
RESEARCH
“Epidemiology of emergency trauma patients and their outcomes in the emergency department ina tertiary care centre located in highways in south India – a prospective study”. – ongoing .
FACILITIES
Round the clock Emergency services including Emergency Surgeries.
IKT 48( Innuyir Kappom Thittam) scheme is being implemented from the launch of the scheme from December 2021.
General Medicine /General Surgery /Orthopaedics/Plastic Surgery /Neurosurgery /Cardiology/ Neurology services round the clock.
For Stroke – SCRIPT/ Myocardial Infarction Thrombolysis is done round the clock & Per cutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is also available.
ACADAMICS
- Post – Graduation course in Emergency Medicine started with intake of 5 students per year and 2 batches of students undergoing training.
- Paramedical course for BSC Accident and Emergency Care with intake of 20 students/year.
- Diploma course in Emergency care Technician with intake of 9 students / batch.
NEWS & EVENTS
CME:
The Emergency department has conducted CME with participation from various colleges& conducted workshops for ICD insertion / eFAST, Cricothroidotomy, Endotracheal intubation,Intraoersous fluid administration, splinting, spine board & pelvic binder application.
Trauma Day:
Regularly conducting awareness program for Medical, Paramedical & public on Road
Traffic Accidents every year during World Trauma Day on October 17 th.
AHS COURSE:
1 st Batch of BSC AECT has cleared the final exams & is currently in their internship phase.
