General Surgery

                      Chengalpattu medical College & Hospital was started in the year 1965 with capacity of 50 undergraduate students which was increased to 100 seats in the year 2012. The M.S. GENERAL SURGERY PG course in DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SURGERY was started in the year 1995 with 1 seat which was increased to 3 seats, then to 4 seats  in subsequent years . At present the department has 15 postgraduate seats recognized by NMC from the year 2017 .The college also offers preclinical, para clinical and super speciality courses.

The department of general surgery operate with 4 units. DEPARTMENT ORGANOGRAM– 4 Professors,3 Associate professors,9 Assistant professors and 4 Senior residents. The department has a bed strength of 200 for in patient treatment.

We have a fully furnished out patient block, operation theatres, endoscopic facility and class rooms. A full fledged emergency department with seperate initiative TAEI is present. We have an independently functioning 40 bedded HIGH DEPENDENCY UNIT and 1 fully equipped SURGICAL ICU with 10 beds. We have 8 operation theatres seperately for emergency and elective cases as per NMC norms. We have a seperate Endoscopic suite to cater upper GI scopy and colonoscopic procedures. There are around 3 laparoscopic units to take care of elective and emergency laparoscopic services. We have well equipped Department as per norms of NMC taking care of needs of faculty and students.

Many Intra-departmental academic activities like Symposiums, Journal clubs, Surgical Society Meetings, Mortality& Morbidity meetings  ; Inter- departmental GUEST LECTURES & Tumor Board by faculties from other departments; an annual Inter-collegiate  surgical  CME called as CHEMSURGE, which has participants from various Government and Private medical colleges across the state and conducted by a set of faculties comprising of DNB and MRCS examiners are being held. Our PG’s also attend various national and state conferences and won many accolades.
