Blood Bank
The Blood Bank department of Government Chengalpattu Medical College and Hospital is a vital component of our Institutional Health Care Initiative playing a crucial role in promoting the health and well being of our community. Our department is dedicated to collecting, testing and distributing blood to patients in need, with the team of well trained professionals working tirelessly to provide safe and reliable blood transfusion.
Our Blood Bank obtained blood component separation unit ( BCSU ) on 31/03/1997 and had been running successfully ever since. Our department is located on the first floor of the Administrative block which is well equipped with the Reception, Medical Examination Room, Phlebotomy Room, Screening Room, Lab-I , Lab -II, Component Separation Room, Storage Room, Sterilization Room , Record Room and an issue area. Our department feels proud to say that in the last 3 years, we have achieved an average collection of 6,650 units of blood per year over the year of 2022, 2023, 2024 respectively and have issued about 14,000 blood units per year and have conducted about 60-80 camps per year.
We celebrate World Blood Donar day on 14 June and National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on 1st October every year and organizers were honoured during the occasion. We are proud to say that we have been able to successfully transfuse rare blood group ( Bombay ) identified last year. To mention in detail an antenatal mother received 2 units of Bombay blood group from reputed institution from Calcutta, Hyderabad, through air cargo, successfully transfused and delivered a healthy baby
We also collaborated with the local hospital and health organization to create a positive impact on the community. We are committed to maintain the highest quality and safety in all our operations and we are proud to say that our department is making a significant contribution to the health and well being of our community.
